Oh dear, Lambeth and their one sided ‘consultations’…
by More Street Cleaning and less Social Cleansing, please
Now, here’s a thing… I bang on about Lambeth council being totally unwilling to discuss anything constructive, but I may have been wrong all along…
According to the following entry in the Cabinet Agenda for Monday 8 July (tonight, folks):
Page 65 of the Agenda – ” Test new ownership model – Housing – Explore the possibility of adopting co-operative models for housing ownership and management by engaging with estates and neighbourhoods to explore which models best suit their needs.
Progress: “The feasibility of short-life housing coops is being explored through the Lambeth United Housing Co-op.””
So, it seems we are in the middle of some sort of discussion. It’s just a pity Lambeth council haven’t yet talked to us. Is it a dream? Or is it just the same old nightmare?
Maybe it’s another of those phantom ‘consultations’ that take place in some council officer’s imagination? Maybe they think that if they say it enough times, it’ll come true? “…There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…”
Ah, it all makes sense now, we’re not in Lambeth, we’re in the Land of Oz… Run Toto, run!
I certainly hope Lambeth don’t imagine they can resurrect the exsanguinated corpse of ‘Shortlife’? A fate worse than death. A cruel and unusual torture… But having some constructive negotiations with Lambeth United Housing Co-operative, Carlton Mansions, Rushcroft Road et al might be a good place to start.
Actually, Lambeth council only got away with ‘Shortlife’ the first time round because they’d intended knocking the houses down. That meant the area was designated as ‘development’ land so council tenancies couldn’t legally be granted. Of course, once the demolition and developments got derailed, then maybe we should have been made council tenants… but they didn’t want to take on that responsibility, did they? What they chose to do was, basically, ignore us for decades, with occasional eviction threats thrown at us when we asked to see the Head licenses. Turns out most co-ops’ Head licenses didn’t exist, Lambeth just the had ‘intent’ to issue licenses… Oh dear, we’re back to that Land of Oz ‘say it three times’ malarkey.
My use of punctuation marks is rubbish, I haven’t a clue what I’m doing.
