The Liberal Democrats, the main opposition on Lambeth Council, have requisitioned a special Full Council meeting over eviction of so-called “shortlife housing” tenants.

They are calling on the Labour Council to suspend the evictions and put on immediate hold the auctioning off of their homes.

The policy of the authority, which claims to be a “Cooperative Council”, has involved the destruction of various cooperatives which have run the “shortlife” housing stock.

The Liberal Democrat group is calling on the Labour Council to suspend its evictions of “shortlife” tenants and put on immediate hold the sale of their properties.

The policy has involved the destruction of various cooperatives which have run the “shortlife” housing stock, properties which the Council originally let out in a poor condition to individuals and groups who were prepared to bring them back into use. In some cases the so called “shortlife” properties have been occupied by the same tenants for 40 years or more.
