URGENT: More 1830s cottages about to be ‘developed’ (read ‘de-historied’) Please object!

by More Street Cleaning and less Social Cleansing, please

Two more Georgian workers cottages are about to be pulled apart and spray foamed back together…

Lambeth is currently selling off many unmodernised Georgian and Victorian properties, previously managed by licensed housing co-ops. The housing co-ops having been unceremoniously turfed out, so Lambeth council can pocket the cash. Read about the eviction of our housing co-ops here and here.

These homes are being unsympathetically modernised, with and without, planning permission. Lambeth planning is not enforcing decisions and seems to care little for the desecration of these now rare Georgian worker’s cottages.

Please put in objections to the following plans.

They include excavating basements (and then tanking out) where there are currently shallow under-floor voids; demolishing and rebuilding currently functional extensions; adding bathrooms/showerooms that will completely change room layouts; erecting railings where there have only ever been wooden fences; erecting ‘glass box’ extension; installing dpc where, in fact, the removal of portland cement render and mortar will certainly improve damp problems without having to introduce an unnecessary ‘new’ technology; changing the ‘shape’ of house by building extension to side return.

Erection of a ground floor single storey rear and side-return extension, excavation at basement level to form a habitable room and installation of a new steel railing fence to the front elevation. Internal works include replacement and instalation of new stairs to the basement, extractor flue fitted to ground floor chimney wall. (Town Planning and listed building consent)
